Happy Saturday!!!
Today has been great so far, I have been enjoying the Black Male Empowerment Summit in Montgomery Alabama. I wanted to show support for our young men, and it was well worth it.
There were Entrepreneurs, Politicians, Professional Athletes, Motivational Speakers and so many people in the community supporting this effort.
I was so impressed with my my homeboy Mr. Willie Whitehead, formerly of the New Orleans Saints, who is now a Motivational Speaker. The powerful message that this brother shared with us, coursed though my body like a warm volcano. The passion that he gave as he told us about seeing the life he wanted for himself and making it happen no matter what, is a message we all need to hear!
He shares with us the grueling mental work that he had to endure to make it to the pros, and that is wasn't easy! He graduated from Auburn University with his heart set on being a Professional football Player, only to find out that he was not going to be drafted!
So did his dream end?
NOOOOO!! Not by a long shot.
He knew that no matter what this is what he wanted, and he was going to GET IT BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
He worked, he worked, he kept his dream and vision in front of him at all times, he practiced, and talked to himself day and night, talked to his agent, he was picked up here and there, only to be let down again.... but he NEVER STOPPED!!
Even when he had no money to get to the training facility , a cousin let him use a small Geo Metro to get there(imagine a huge football player in one of those), but he went!
No excuses... He knew what he wanted!(smile)
Whether it was playing in Canada or the STATES he held fast to his dream! He didn't let ANYTHING hold him back, even if he had to take a job in the meantime.....
He kept pushing....until one day he got the call to be a NEW ORLEAN SAINTS. . .and the rest is history!
Mr. Whitehead shared with us, that when we want something It AINT ALWAYS EASY. . .
IT CAN BE HARD. . .
IT CAN BE DISAPPOINTING. . .
BUT KEEP GOING!
Afterwards, I was able to talk with him for a quick second,and told him ....
"Good job homeboy! You did us proud!"
So if you are reading this, you don't have to be young, black, or male to get anything from this message. You can just be HUMAN! Whatever you desire.... work for it, study it, breathe it, love it, and get IT!!!!!
